Phloxs are one of the mainstays of the late summer border. Their blousy blooms provide a solid block of colour and a delicious fragrance. Excellent as cut flowers and for attracting pollinators.

There are as many as 60 deciduous and evergreen species that, with one exception, are native to North America. Some phloxs are alpine mat-forming plants, others are more comfortable in woodland surroundings, while the more common ones we see are border-hugging plants. As a result growing conditions vary with each species.

The phloxs below are all border phloxs and as such require good light and good soil.  They do not soil that dries out in the summer. They are hardy but if in doubt mulch the top of the soil with bark chippings before winter.arrives. Mulch with organic matter in spring.
