Geums tend to prefer moist, well-drained, rich soil in partial sun. Perfect for woodland gardens or brightening up a shady corner. These plants also work well in cottage-garden schemes, at the front of borders and come in a variety of reds, oranges and yellows. Clump-forming with hairy leaves.

If you have clay soil, don't worry. You just need to enrich your soil with garden compost and when planting out put a generous amount of sand and compost underneath and around the plant. I had clay in my previous garden and so I planted the geums in pots full of compost and they flowered beautifully. However please be aware that plants in pots are more susceptible to vine weevils.

There are four different types of geum: coccineum - full sun; chiloense - sun/partial shade; rivale -  partial shade and being close to streams and ponds; hybrids - sun/partial shade. Unless otherwise stated most of the geums I sell are hybrids.
