Hardy geraniums or cranesbill (as they are known by their common name) make up one of the most versatile groups of flowering plants. There are many varieties to suit the different conditions within gardens as well as trailing, ground cover and border. These are great plants as that they are generally long-flowering and there's at least one kind that will fill that problematic place in your garden.

Geraniums may be susceptible to summer mildew but these are tough plants and strong enough to grow through any problems. Mulch with compost or manure if this becomes a problem. Cutting back after the first blooms have died should encourge a second flush of flowers.

Some hardy geraniums are in fact not that hardy however all the ones I sell should be as they last through a Midlands winter. I've found that they just don't really like being in really damp soil that much.
